August Strindberg "Miss Julie" scene design and costume

"MISS JULIE"
By August Strindberg
Scene design and costumes for the second year in Vilnius Academy of Arts
XIX century, Scandinavian kitchen with normal XIX century people acting as it is expected of XIX century people. Julie is this home mistress, while her father is traveling. She is a true lady, maybe a bit tense but somewhat coquettish. Jean- Julies fathers stableman, and is important in this household, because of his job. And also Christine, the maid whose faith makes her somewhat indifferent to everything around her. But A.Strindberg could't help himself and added some salt to this sweet and banal affair. And this little pinch is so damning to everyone's life that it seems everything is no longer stable and becoming surreal.

The feeling of surreal allowed me to play with bathroom / kitchen tiled somewhere outdoors, in the woods. And at the same time, to put there like a porch remnants without specific location and definability. And then, on that obscure background, a white, food-laden table appears with white chairs. So all in one. Like the characters of "Miss Julie". A little of everything.
I'm playing with the light and the chairs. Conversations are the most important in this play, so actors by putting the chairs and sitting on them in different positions create a lot of ways to talk to each other.
